I received a call saying that I received a free membership. I wasn't too thrilled about it, but I went anyway. The place is terrible. It looked very disorganized. The weights looked old and very used. The pool had some sort of major leak. It just didn't sit well with me. I guess this would be one of the many reasons why I never join a club.
Long story short, don't go to the gym. They sign you up, make you pay upfront, then steal your money with hidden fees. The equipment is busted, the place is in ill repair and there is no current management to get a hold of.
As with all of the reviews of this business, I, too, received a call saying I had won a free membership. Friends of ours had the same scam happen to them a month prior. We went to see if they were really going to try the same scheme as with our friends the month prior. They did. They'll show you the whole gym (which is in very poor condition. Holes in the walls, old carpet, sketchy swimming pools, old equipment, etc.) then sit you down and put a contract in front of your face and tell you that you gotta pay 8 dollars a month for a maintenance fee. Then they say that it has to be paid all up front and you gotta pay it for two separate two year contracts. Which amounts to about $450. So in about 10 minutes free turns into a $450 2 year contract. It's the biggest lie. A complete bait and switch. I'm surprised these guys are staying in good standing with the better business bureau.
While I waited for them to look up my account and print off a receipt saying I had paid off my account just so I could have proof of my payment, several people walked up to the counter and asked if their paychecks had come in yet. The employee behind the desk said no and he had no idea when any of their paychecks would be in. I was shocked. No wonder they treat members badly, they can't even pay their own employees regularly!
Not only was the equipment broken and in ill repair, I asked for the manager to see when they would fix the machines and they said that they were undergoing a management change and all management was unavailable. I then told them the tension in the elliptical I was using kept quitting halfway through my workout and the machine would stop. They said they would get someone right on it. I was told to use the treadmill instead. I went in a week later and not only was the same elliptical still broken, several of the other ones weren't working either.
I too was offered a free 2 year membership. They told me up front about the maintenance fee. However, I realized that $8 a month for a membership is a great deal. The gym is being renovated due to the recent ownership changes. Some of cardio equipment needs to be replaced, but all the weight equipment it in good shape. They have many classes available and several fitness options such as pools, gyms, saunas, and courts. Best part is the fact that the gym is open 24hrs so you can always find time to workout.
I was called by the gym saying I had won a two year membership. They kept calling me so I went in out of curiosity. I found out they didn't charge a membership fee but you had to pay a maintenance fee instead which was $26 a month. I thought what the heck I can afford the $150 for two years and started going to the gym regularly.
This place is DISGUSTING. We received a phone call about coming in for a free 2 weeks. The guy was really nice but now looking back he knew nothing about the memberships. He talked us into joining. I mainly joined tanning. We went and worked out 1 time. The equipment is junk. Then tanning beds are HORRIFIC. There is no ceiling in the tanning rooms which CREEPY. The beds are VERY old and remind me of some Final Destination crap. Anyways, now I am stuck paying $36 a month for something I am never going to use because the place is gross, old and everything in it is JUNK!
I stopped going after that and but the gym kept calling me to come in to get another membership for a friend even though I told them I wasn't interested. They finally took me off the calling list and then a few months later I received an additional $26 charge to my card even though I had paid off my membership completely. I then went to the gym to cancel my membership and find out about the fee. Ironically I waited in line behind several other people who were also canceling their memberships. They told us all the same thing, none of us could cancel our memberships because they were paid off. They then said the $26 charge was an enhancement fee and it was non refundable. Upset I said I was not informed of any additional fees that were required with my basic membership and asked if I would receive any more charges for my membership even though I wouldn't be going to the gym anymore. They told me the enhancement fees happened every couple months and I would still be charged even if I decided to not use my membership!
